Screwdrivers are tools designed for pressing screws into metal, wood or other materials by rotating at the screw driving interface. There are two general types of screwdrivers: the manual and power screwdrivers.

Manual and Power Screwdrivers

Manual drivers are driven by hands while the power screwdrivers are equipped with electric motors that rotate the driver head. The head type on screwdrivers varies and depends on the screw that will be utilised., with the most common types being the flat head and the Philips head, although many more are available online.

Flathead screwdrivers have a narrow and flat surface that is set in a straight slot onto the head of the screw. The screwdriver blade’s width determines what types of screws you can use: a blade that is too wide is going to keep the screw from turning, and if it is too narrow, there won’t be enough torque applied. Apart from the width, the length is important as well as it determines the amount of torque a screw can receive.

Philips screwdrivers on the other hand, have a cross-shaped head which slots into a screw head of a similar shape. Philips screwdrivers are usually capable of generating more torque compared to flathead screwdrivers. There are different types of Philips screwdrivers, with most of them elongated, though one of the more common traits of these screwdrivers is the longer they are, the tendency for the tip to get wider.

While the flathead and the Phillips screwdrivers are the most common, there are many others that you can buy such as Robertson drivers, torx drivers and hex head drivers.

At Electrical Supplies we supply our customers with an assortment of screwdrivers from the most popular brands. Whatever type of screwdriver you may require, be it the Dart FESSET05 5 Piece Insulated Screwdriver Set or the Draper screwdrivers, we have them here.
